Taking off last Mach 3 and amassing more than 55 miles above the Earth’s surface last Saturday, Sir Richard Branson, a British billionaire, had his private spacecraft institution the Virgin Galactic Holdings Inc accomplish its initial space flight from its latest homeport in New Mexico.
This is an achievement that had been made by Branson's nearly 20 years of studies in creating a commercial "spaceline" to take paying clients into outer space.
A report from Reuters said that touted as the first-ever manned spaceflight from the state, Branson's SpaceShipTwo craft took off in the desert of Las Cruces, New Mexico about 45 miles northeast around 10:35 a.m.
After 50 minutes of its launching, traveling around 2,300 miles an hour, it finally reached a height NASA recognizes as space and finally attained suborbital flight classification.
A tweet was even posted by Virgin Galactic Holding Inc. saying that "we are finally in space".
CJ Sturckow and Dave Mackay while on the flight deck reached space, while Kelly Latimer and Michael Masucci piloted the carrier aircraft that aided in the lift-off of the spaceship, said by the company.
The spacecraft, having six crews, glided to a landing on a runway in a safe manner together with the two pilots around
11:45 a.m.
"The members experienced unexplainable scenery of the bright, blue-rimmed curvature of the planet earth against the darkness of space ... Their experience today then creates Virgin Galactic’s future Astronaut clients a taste of what they will be experiencing," the company added in their press release.
Branson debuted with its company in 2004 and this is the 3rd time that his Virgin Galactic had reported reaching outer space.
The Washington Post reported that this type of take-off comes at a critical time for Branson as his space program is currently facing competition from billionaire Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin, the tech giant Amazon found
er's own efforts in creating a commercial space timeline.
Saturday's take-off is when Branson's initial crafts have reached outer space in more than two years already, when Virgin Galactic moved its operations from Mojave, California, to the area of New Mexico.

The CEO of Virgin Galactic, Michael Colglazier, also said in an interview that: "This day’s flight showcased the inherent beauty and security of our spaceflight system while marking a major leap of faith towards a scientific approach for both Virgin Galactic and human spaceflight in New Mexico."
